Background Information:
BattleTech is a science fiction franchise that began in 1984 with a series of tabletop games and later expanded into numerous other media such as novels, video games, a cartoon series, and even a trading card game. The franchise tells the tale of mankind's ventures into space over the course of the 20th to 36th centuries. It isn't a happy tale: basically everyone is always at war.
Standing in the Battledome:
BattleTech is a reasonably powerful universe. The franchise contains fleets of FTL spaceships that are capable of life wiping worlds by nuking them from orbit, numerous powerful interstellar militaries, and resources spread out over many light-years.
