When They Cry OBD
Some of the important characters in When They Cry

Background Information

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: a sound novel produced by 07th Expansion. It spans eight main installments (with a collection of TIPS given in each chapter) that are divided into question and answer arcs. PS2 adaptations called Kizuna and Matsuri brought new art, voice acting, and five new question and answer arcs. The series also got a sequel called Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei with a couple of extra arcs, and a final installment called Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Hou with new characters and new sprites in Ryuukishi's style  (oh well things cant always be good [>]). There is also a 3D fighting game called Higurashi Daybreak, a manga adaptation, and an anime adaptation, et al.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni: a sound novel produced by 07th Expansion. It spans 8 installments a collection of TIPS called Umineko no Naku Koro ni Tsubasa, a 2D fighting game called Umineko Ougon Musou Kyoku, a manga adaptation and an anime adaptation. The manga was recently confirmed to be canon.

It revolves around a murder mystery taking place on an island with the main protagonist, Battler, in a conflict with the Endless Witch Beatrice to find the true culprit.

Though it takes place on an island, the entire verse is actually part of a much larger multiverse that is infinite and includes the Higurashi no naku koro ni multiverse. Yet this multiverse is worth little more than a fraction of a single small book in the City of Books, said book containing numerous more multiverses while bing just one among countless books in the City of Books, a larger multiverse created by Featherine.

The island itself is akin to the Schrodinger's cat box, where all possible "truths" can exist at the same time.

Though the title art is really really god awful, the story, interesting characters, music and intricate plots more than make up for it. The art problem was recently taken care of in a PS3 Sprite update.

Hotarubi no Tomoru Koro ni: a sequel manga to Umineko no Naku Koro ni. It stars Takano. It's also not getting translated. It revolves around a game between Bernkastel and Lambdadelta.

Standing in the Battledome

When They Cry is very broken and one of the strongest series out there. The top tiers and god tiers in the series are in the multi-megaversal+ and above range of firepower and have a variety of hax including probability manipulation, dimensional teleportation, and control over the infinite. High tiers have universal to multiversal reality warping.

Mid tiers call upon the power of the mythic gods and consume stars. Low-tier characters are in the town- to mountain-level range. The bottom tiers are street level brawlers that range from faster than the eye can follow to supersonic to massively hypersonic, even reaching massively faster than light speeds.

Energy swords, energy projectiles and mythic weapons also boost the universe's offensive abilities, with even more broken conceptual manipulation that deny the existence of the target or barriers strong enough to not let even concepts bypass them. Conceptual attacks are thrown around like they're going out of style.

Confirmation fragments are parallel universes. As are game boards (which is what is being dsiscussed in the preceding pictures).

At the moment, most of the profiles below are Umineko related.
