Kasumi Kenshiro, the main character in Fist of the Blue Sky

Background Information

Fist of the Blue Sky (aka Souten no Ken) is a manga created by Tetsuo Hara and Buronson as a prequel to Fist of the North Star (Hokuto no Ken).

It takes place in the 1930s and follows the adventures of Kasumi Kenshiro, the brother of Ryuuken (whose real name is Kasumi Ramon, and who was the master and adoptive father of Kenshiro from FotNS). In fact, it was revealed in this series that FotNS Kenshiro was named after Kasumi Kenshiro, his adoptive uncle.

It features a thick, Noir atmosphere with less action and slower pacing than Hokuto no Ken, but focuses more on characterization and the level of detail in fights.

Standing in the Battledome

The manga contains more bullet timing feats than HnK (mainly due to the fact that the latter took place in a post - apocalyptic setting where bullets were rare), and features martial art styles not seen before in the series, such as Hokuto Sonkaken and Hokuto Sokaken as well as explaining the origins of Nanto Seiken and a few other major styles). Generally, it's not quite as powerful as Hokuto no Ken, but they have decently powerful large building busters with comparable speed.
