Background Information

Dungeons and Dragons (D&D/DnD for short) is a tabletop fantasy role-playing game, designed and released in 1974 by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson through TSR. The game would become recognized as the first modern role-playing game and would cement the trend of medieval fantasy in role-playing games, creating many tropes of the genre.

D&D would later be acquired and published by Wizards of the Coast (WotC) in 1997 and would go on to include multiple official settings through five iterations of the ruleset boasting hundreds of sourcebooks, adventure modules, and supplement products, also creating a wide array of community-based content. 

Today it remains the most known and best-selling role-play-based tabletop game, with many fictions across all forms of media influenced by it.

Canonicity

D&D isn't strictly one fiction as much as it is a system upon which franchises can be built.

In D&D there exist many campaign settings, each being its own world with its own history, cosmos, and pantheon of gods.
Some of these settings, such as the Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, Eberron, or Dragonlance have been given 'official' status by WotC.
Combined with the core rulebooks and official magazines (Dragon and Dungeon) these make up the "primary canon". 3rd party materials published under the D&D system are considered secondary canon (sort of like an expanded universe), and finally, homebrew is content made under D&D rules by players or parties unaffiliated with official or licensed publishers. 

Most of the profiles on the wiki will represent primary canon versions of characters, specifically the Forgotten Realms versions (the most well-known setting) unless specified otherwise.

Standing in the Battledome

D&D is a vast verse with nigh-limitless alternate reality versions of many settings (if you include all materials of all canon), with each being its own multiverse.
Even just primary canon alone has a number of powerful beings who are easily multiversal. Below these transcended beings exist countless gods of countless campaign worlds, with many being universal powers. Even the non-divine creatures and characters in D&D possess many potent and broken powers, with even plain non-epic characters being able to trap souls, stop time, and warp reality.

With all materials included D&D ranks among the strongest game franchises.
