Powers and Abilities: Super strength, speed, durability, agility, endurance, fire creation, and manipulation, can shoot fire blasts and use flame barriers, able to burn his opponent from within, high-level heat & fire immunity (unaffected by the AoE of his own fire attacks), prodigious swordsmanship (can incorporate parts of other fighting styles he's experienced and use them to evolve his own style: "A Form Without Form"), resistance to petrification and mind control with his red eyes, can power up by "speaking" to his sword and via Red Eyes

Notable Attacks/Techniques:
- A Form Without Form: Hontaru's true talent. He is able to absorb and master fighting styles he faces in battle and assimilate them to evolve his own style.
- The Dancing Blade: Shinrei's fighting style which Hotaru mastered after battling him. It centers around reading the opponent's rhythm and vocalizing the timing; matching his movements to his opponents while using dancing attacks that changed direction, which makes them difficult to predict and guard against.
- Red Eyes: Hotaru can call out to the Mibu blood within him for a significant boost in power, which changes his right eye to crimson red
- Fire Style: A school created by Yuan, Hotaru's master, which involve the control of fire. With his mastery, Hotaru can freely generate flames from his body and sword for both offensive and defensive purposes and command them according to his will. He typically uses his flames in tandem with his swordsmanship, pressing his opponent in melee and releasing point-blank fire attacks when they are exposed.
- Chikewai (Blood Markings): A technique which increases Hotaru's power and speed by putting himself in a state where he pushes himself beyond the limit, risking immense exhaustion.
- Hono Chikewai (Flame Blood Markings): In order to considerably enhance his capacity, Yuan sets the blood in his veins on fire. This is considered a forbidden art which burns up his life, and he can only maintain it for a short while, and it leaves him drained afterward.

- Shakuran Entei (Burning Incense): Hotaru sends a blast of fire at the enemy.
- Maoen: A more advanced form of Skakuran Entei. Hotaru releases a devastating, concentrated blast of blazing fire from his sword or body.
- Akuma No Ago (Hell Crusher): An omnidirectional attack that emits a large sphere of black flames outward from Hotaru's body.

- Keikoku Inferno: Hotaru engulf his opponent in a huge and powerful maelstrom of fire which binds his Hono Chikeiwai technique onto the target’s skin, which results in the target burning from the inside out
- Flame Wall: Hotaru summons powerful flames to block enemy attacks. He forms it as a wall in front of him or surrounds his body with flames like an armor.
- Fire Bunshin: Hotaru creates a clone of himself made of fire, which he can use for misdirection by swiftly moving as he creates it.
