Background Information:
Mobile Suit Gundam aka Kidou Senshi Gundam aka The First Gundam is the first Gundam series ever. It was created by Sunrise and directed by Yoshiyuki "Kill Em All" Tomino.
It's a story about a young boy named Amuro Ray. When The Principality of Zeon (imagine Nazis in space) attack the colonies on Side 7, Amuro finds himself in the cockpit of the RX-78-2 Gundam. While inside, he manages to beat two Zakus. Seeing his potential, captain Noah Bright of White Base assigns Amuro to the Gundam and sends him in multiple battles against Zeon. While protecting White Base and his friends, Amuro develops a rivalry with Zeon ace Char "The Red Comet" Aznable.
Their hatred for each other is awakened when they fall in love for the same girl, a newtype named Lalah Sune, and reaches a breaking point when Amuro accidentally kills Lalah during the battle of Solomon.
Amuro and Char's actions manage to directly end the One Year War between Zeon and Earth which ends in the death of the Zabi family (the ruling family of Zeon). Amuro is heralded as a hero on Earth (though remains a fairly low rank due to his commander's distrust for newtypes) while Char disappears.
