Powers and Abilities: Super strength, speed, durability, endurance, agility, expert hand-to-hand fighter (easily outfought Natsu and Gajeel simultaneously in close-quarters), his Lightning Dragon Slayer Magic enables him to create, control and eat electricity/lightning, considerable immunity to electricity/lightning - based attacks, can use his lightning to create small barriers to protect him from attacks, the ability to travel as lightning, turn into a lightning bolt, astral projection, able to resist sleep spells and illusions (was able to quite easily determine that Mystogan had put him in an illusion), very large immunity to poison (inhaled all the poison in an entire town, even a pinch of the poison is fatal), can use lightning to blind opponents
Weaknesses: High conductivity metals can redirect most of his electric attacks like a lightning rod

Intelligence: Fairly intelligent, devised a plan to take over the Fairy Tail guild which turned out relatively well and only seemed to fail due to a slight error in his knowledge concerning the Fairy Law technique, is also a skilled combatant being an S-Class mage and with that one of the best mages in the entire guild
Notable Attacks/Techniques:
- Lightning Dragon Slayer Magic: Laxus is a user of Lightning magic, which allows him to control and make lighting appear from almost anywhere. The true basis for Laxus's magic is Lightning Dragon Slayer Magic, giving him the power and characteristics of a Thunder Dragon, and can eat electricity to heal himself. Lightning moves may be redirected by metal objects acting as "lightning rods". However, he has been keeping the true nature of his magic secret from the other Guild members, even Makarov, and implies that Laxus trained with a real dragon like Gajeel and Natsu. As it turns out, however, the magic was actually implanted within him by father as he was weak when he was younger.
- Rairyuu no Houkou (Lightning Dragon Roar): Laxus gathers electricity around his mouth and releases it in a concentrated blast. Even if the target survives, the electricity paralyzes them, keeping them from escaping his next attack.

- Rairyuu Houtengeki (Lightning Dragon Heavenward Halberd): Laxus will form lightning between his hands, creating a Chinese halberd made of electricity. He then hurls the halberd at the enemy. This spell is strong enough to kill a weakened Natsu, least if it hadn't been redirected at the last second.
- Dragon Slayer Mode: Laxus gains dragon scales and a huge power boost, it is only in this mode so far that Laxus has used his Lightning Dragon Slayer abilities.
- Lightning Magic: Laxus magic that allows him to create and control lightning, he can also make his body transform into lightning and quickly travel to another spot, as it's shown when Natsu attempted to punch him. When Laxus snaps, his body randomly discharges small traces of electricity from his eyes and mouth, and his pupils disappear. His physical and magical abilities seem to greatly increase, as well as his defensive power.
- Hall of Thunder: Creates multiple lachryma which are filled with enormous amounts of lightning magic and suspended in the air in a circular formation. When all of the orbs are released at once, everything below and above the circle is struck by powerful lightning bolts equivalent to the number of lachryma orbs. This spell is powerful enough to destroy the entire town of Magnolia. If the orbs are destroyed by an outside force, the attacker is instantly electrocuted through Living Link Magic.
- Raging Bolt: Laxus raises his clenched fist in the air and chants "Resounding through the air, the roar of thunder, plunge from the heavens and reap destruction!" A large bolt of lightning will then descend upon the target, possibly completely vaporizing him. The full effect of this technique on an individual was not seen as Natsu was pulled out of the way by Gajeel before it could hit.
- Rairyū no Hōken (Lightning Dragon's Breakdown Fist): Laxus gathers a large amount of lightning around one of his fists, bends the arm and then extends the fist forward in a punching motion.
- Lightning Dragon's Iron Fist: Laxus engulfs one of his fists in lightning and punches the target, causing sheer blunt damage.
- Rairyū no Agito (Lightning Dragon's Jaw): Having knocked an opponent to the ground and then approached it, Laxus joins his hands and imbues them with a large amount of lightning. He then proceeds to strike the target down from above with his joined hands, causing it grievous damage; the remaining electricity is discharged in the surrounding area, heavily damaging it as well, and leaving both Laxus and the victim in a large crater.

- Narumikazuchi (Roaring Thunder): Laxus charges forward and punches his opponent with a lightning imbued fist which releases a large amount of lightning upon impacting with the intended target, heavily damaging and electrocuting the target, whilst also pushing them away with immense force.
- Red Lightning Dragon Mode: An unique ability that imbues lightining with blood, in this mode Laxus' attacks are powerful enough to damage opponents with high resistance to all forms of lightning.
- Raikō: Akamikazuchi (Raikō: Red Lightning): Laxus coats his fist with red lightning before executing an empowered punch
- Living Link Magic: This is a technique which returns an appropriate attack, centered around the form of magic it is connected with. Meaning, if someone attacks what this type of magic is bound to, the result would be an immediate counter attack.
- Fairy Law: The same magic Makarov used to defeat Jose; it targets all that the user sees as enemies and eliminates them. Only those the user sees as allies or neutral will remain unscathed. The choice between friend or foe is decided by the user's spirit, and he can not lie to this magic.
