Destructive Capacity is simply the capacity of a character to cause destruction. It is useful for scaling the power of a character and is THE most common method of determining how much damage a character can dish out. Destructive capacity is based on the ability to destroy with a single attack.

An alternate method of calculation is to determine what materials the attack is capable of destroying. Someone who can cut steel is... a steel cutter. It can even be applied to fictional materials, for example, a villain boasting "This tank is made of Barritium, which is ten thousand times the strength of steel! You'll never defeat me! Mwhahahahahaha!" ...and then the hero smashes the tank in one go, and we have our answer! However, this scenario does not present itself often due to it requiring the author to actually tell us these things through the writing. We are usually left with existing materials, or scaling from what the material has withstood (a spaceship which withstood the gravitational shearing of a black hole is made out of something hard to destroy).

The terms used in the OBD are not thoroughly classified, and are quite general on the lower scales, some such as building buster, island buster, and country buster are very vague, being subject to colloquialism and too much generalization. As such, this page attempts to formalize them with calculated values so we can all learn to stop being retards and classify things a bit better. This list is an extensive breakdown and includes known estimates of multiples from the bottom of a level to the top in terms of explosive energy, if it is quantifiable.

Note: for things such as physical strikes, energy just gives an idea of the equivalent magnitude and is important in general terms, whereas force due to deceleration and then the pressure due to area are the factors that deliver the damage (a handgun bullet can have kinetic energy in range of a human punch, but is way more lethal), so this becomes more important for explosive/energy attacks than physical ones.

Below Street Level - (<100 joules) A nebulous rarely occurring category including anything less destructive than the average human, going downwards forever.

[Eg: Microbes, fucking baybees. The mascot for Honey Nut Loops?]

Street Level - (100 joules) Starts at the average human strength and ends at above peak human, and here the destructive capacity usually correlates with the strength level. Able to smash furniture, cause concussions to ordinary humans, and at the high end end able to shatter bricks and slabs of concrete. To give a better sense of scale in physical attacks:

An unremarkable punch - 100j
A strong Kareteka punch - 450j
Most energetic punch ever recorded (Rocky Marciano) - 1008j
100 kilo man moving at 10m/s - 5000j

Humans can also use weapons whether melee or projectile to increase lethality, and this should be considered. A rifle bullet can produce about 3KJ, but expends its energy very quickly on a small target area, resulting in deadly penetration of the target.

[Eg: You (hopefully)]

Wall Level - (5000 joules) Correlates with superhuman strength but projectile attacks may also be causing the damage here. Classified as the ability to destroy a single brick wall of an average house with a single blow, or generally to shatter stone walls and cause extensive damage to buildings short of leveling them. Also likely to be able to fell many types of tree which a single attack, and able to obliterate ordinary humans with attacks. Vehicles are able to cause this level of damage, as are small explosive devices such as grenades.

[Eg: Liu Kang, and many other Mortal Kombat characters (except high tiers). Batman from DC. Ricky from Riki-Oh. A lot of superhuman characters fall in here, and the Kool-Aid Man]

Small Building Level - (0.005 tons) The capacity to completely destroy an average 4 window house or building of similar size in one attack upwards to communal buildings with greater than 5 floors. Requires explosive levels of strength or power. Of course, actual power may vary somewhat on the means of destroying the building. Characters from here onwards are usually referred to as "-------- Busters" and so on.

[Eg:

Building Level - (0.25 tons) The capacity to destroy a typical multiple story building.

[Eg: Rud Han from Veritas, many Naruto , and various Pokemon]

Large Building Level - (2 tons) The capacity to level anything from a small apartment block upwards to the tallest skyscraper.

[Eg: Kenshiro from the '86 Fist of the North Star movie, probably in the series also, and Lime from Saber Marionette J]

City Block Level - (11 tons) A very large conventional bomb such as the US MOAB can be compared to this as it is a city block buster. The standard Manhattan city block size of 80m by 274m rectangle of buildings shall be considered the base.

[Eg: Raiden from Mortal Kombat, Sachiel from Neon Genesis Evangelion, and most Bleach characters]

Town Level - (5.8 kilotons) This would be considered a small nuke level attack, of large AOE, mechanically reducing buildings across an entire area to rubble or dust. Starting at destroying a small settlement greater than 1km in diameter and going up to city areas 10km in diameter. The term "Hill Level" has some overlap here, but the overlap exists for the same reason why Mountain Level overlaps with City Level.

[Eg: Ulquiorra from Bleach and most high tiers from One Piece]

City Level - (6.3 megatons) A triple bill. Starts at 10km area of destructive power. The term "Mountain Level" has some overlap here, but is much stronger than the base of City Level. The power it takes to excavate a crater is a lot greater than simply wiping the same area clean, but considering the size of the cities in the world, this is the reason for the overlap.

[Eg: Saiyuki from Kurohime, Piccolo Daimao from Dragon Ball, Most S class heroes from One Punch Man and Pseudo legendaries from Pokemon ]

Island Level - (4 gigatons) - The equivalent of destroying Mount Everest.

[Eg: Powerful spellcasters from Slayers, Goku and Piccolo by 23rd Budokai in Dragon Ball, Mewtwo from Pokemon, and most Bleach/One Piece top tiers]

Country Level - (7 teratons) Countries can come in many sizes, but since we are attempting to classify for OBD purposes, a "country buster" is capable of destroying an area that is the mean of all the world's countries (see Cable's destruction chart linked below).

[Eg: Dai no Daiboken high tiers, Naruto top tiers]

Continent Level - (1.33 petatons) The energy it takes to destroy a good size continent. On the high end of "continent buster", as it approaches "planet buster" the planetary structure may be disrupted, but not to any permanent degree. In real life, this would be considered a life wiper due to the firestorm of super hot micro-debris. Some series may consider these after effects, others may not, but we are left with the resulting power level either way.

[Eg: Anthrax from Bastard!! , Juubi from Naruto, Saitama from One Punch Man, most Toriko high tiers and Adam from Neon Genesis Evangelion]

Multi Continent Level - (1 exaton) The energy needed to completely raze Earth's surface in a single attack.

Moon Level - (29.6 exatons). The energy it takes to destroy Earth's moon.

[Eg: Jack of Hearts from Marvel Comics, Takeshi Onimaru and Yaiba Kurogane from Yaiba)

Planet Level - (57.3 zettatons) This has always had an easy model because of the earth. This is based on its gravitational binding energy, which is the energy needed to separate all of its mass to infinity, permanently dispersing it. Any character destroying a planet with brute force is playing with this level of energy.

However since planets come in varying sizes, the OBD further breaks them down into small and large categories:

Small (433 exatons) The ability to destroy a planet equivalent to Mercury, the smallest planet in the solar system.

Large (2.7 yottatons) The ability to destroy the least massive gas giant in the solar system, Uranus.

[Eg: Piccolo, and many others (Saya-jin Saga and Up) from Dragon Ball, Lord Alkanphel from The Guyver]

Star Level - (164.913 tenatons) The ability to destroy the sun.

Like the planetary category, stars greatly vary in size, and so for simplicity's sake:

Small (2.998 tenatons) The ability to destroy small red dwarf stars such as VB10.

Large (330.554 tenatons) The ability to destroy blue giant stars such as Rigel.

[Eg: Buu Saga Dragon Ball characters, some Bastard!! characters, some Sailor Moon characters, and Forerunners from Halo]

Solar System Level - (5.709 Foe) The ability to destroy all the major bodies in the solar system, from the sun out to Neptune. Tons of TNT begin to no longer be adequate to measure this energy, and so from this point forward, destructive capacity is defined as units of Foe, or supernova equivalent energy. The total mass-energy of the sun has actually been estimated to be enough to disperse all the planets up to and including Neptune. Gamma ray bursts also unleash this amount of energy. So, any character who can throw anti-matter suns around is on this level.

[Eg: Silver Surfer: a Marvel Herald of Galactus, Superman from DC Comics,  anyone with Lighthawk Wings from Tenchi Muyo!, and Ideon from Space Runaway Ideon,]

Small Galaxy Level - (10 KiloFoe) Greatly exceeding the previous. Creating explosions (almost always FTL) which can destroy small galaxies like the Magellanic Clouds and ends at a Milky Way sized system. The benchmark for this level is Willman 1, the smallest known galaxy.

[Eg: Thanos from Marvel ComicsSailor Moon god tiers, and most Gold Saints from Saint Seiya]

Galaxy Level - (10 GigaFoe) Starts at the level of the Milky Way. An expanding explosion would be subject to the inverse-square law, meaning the energy requirement would increase by dozens of orders of magnitude (although since these explosions usually defy physics they can't really be calculated that way)

[Eg: Dark Schneider. Super Sailor Moon from Sailor Moon.}

Large Galaxy Level - (1 PetaFoe) The capability to destroy large elliptical galaxies and giant galaxies. This greately exceeds the previous level of destruction.

[Eg: Superman One Million from DC Comics]

Multi Galaxy Level - (1 zettaFoe) Anyone who can destroy multiple galaxies to enormous amounts of the mass in the universe without destroying everything basically comes in here.

[Eg: Odin and most high Skyfathers from Marvel Comics]

Universe Level - (?) Speaks for itself and is basically unquantifiable in real terms, but varies greatly due to the composition of certain physical universes.

[Eg: Various unsealed Titans from Saint Seiya and Giygas from Earthbound]

Multiverse Level
 - (?) The power to destroy more than one universe.

Multiverse level+ .- (?) The power to destroy an infinite collection of universes.
[Eg: Galactus from Marvel Comics with the Ultimate Nullifier, Anti Monitor from DC Comics, Unicron from Transformers]

Megaverse Level - (?) The power to destroy more than one Multiverse.

Megaverse Level+
- (?) The power to destroy an infinite collection of megaverses and up to endless levels of infinity.

[Eg: Downstreamers from Manifold Series, Molecule Man (Pre-Retcon) from Marvel Comics]

Omniverse Level - (?) The power to exist/destroy things beyond endless levels of infinity.

[Eg: The Presence from DC/Vertigo Comics, Man of Miracles from Image Comics, and The One Above All from Marvel Comics]
