|The books in the series.|
The Hyperion Cantos is the name given to a series of 4 sci-fi novels written by Dan Simmons: Hyperion, The Fall of Hyperion, Endymion, and The Rise of Endymion (the latter two are also known as the Endymion Cantos, but for simplicity's sake we'll refer to the whole set by the name Hyperion Cantos). They take place several hundred years in the future, when humankind has colonized several star systems, and split into several factions. The main conflict in the books is between humanity and the Technocore, a race of computers originally created by humans.
Standing in the Battledome:
The Hyperion Cantos is mostly noted in the OBD for the presence of The Shrike, a temporally transcendant killing machine created by the Machine Ultimate Intelligence in the far future.
The Shrike is considered to be one of the most broken characters in the OBD.
Sometimes other characters from the series are used in OBD battles, such as Rhadamanth Nemes and her clones.
The Hyperion Cantos was also referenced in , but if you ask me Simmons should have sued Tanigawa for all he was worth.
