Dragon Quest III
So, the journey begins.

Background Information

The plot varies greatly depending on which entry of the game we are talking about. Generally, they always center some around sort of mute hero named by the player. Who gets caught up in something beyond their pay grade. Which they have to end up fixing one way or another. That, or they are the chosen hero of destiny. Who has to save the world.

At any rate, Dragon Quest or Dragon Warrior as it is known in Japan is a popular series of JRPGs first developed by Chunsoft and published by Enix (before it became Square Enix). Over the years it has only grown in popularity in Japan, and grown into obscurity everywhere else. However, many of the games have had excellent localizations with amazing English voice acting. Probably due to the fact Square Enix was willing to splurge for one of their favorite series. Which allows us Americans and Europeans to enjoy this wonderful series without having to learn Japanese because fuck that.

It is a great series with art by Akira Toriyama, and a story that is not by him. Which by default makes it better than the Dragon Ball Super manga (and anime).

Anyone who is a fan of JRPGs should give this series a try, and anyone who likes puff-puff should also give this series a try.

Standing in the Battledome

Dragon Quest is a multiverse consisting of a handful of different universes. At least eleven different confirmed universes, and many other adjacent dimensions connected to them like the void and the underworld. Then things like the World of Darkness. Not including or mentioning the many others we see throughout the series. The one thing they have in common being the fact that monsters and humans exist, and there is magic in all of them. Depending on which entry in the series we are talking about? They range from being able to destroy mountain ranges to be able to destroy the universe, or even unravel the multiverse when looking at the more powerful characters.

In terms of speed, they range from massively hypersonic to MFTL, and they have spatial/temporal hax. The ability to stop time. Transmutation, and matter manipulation. As well as the ability to pulverize multiple dimensions, and ignore conventional durability. Souls, spirits, and the manipulation of them is not unusual either.

At the top of the food chain is the Goddess or Yggdragon. Otherwise, known as Yggdrasil. Who is the source of all light, and souls in the multiverse. In opposition to her is Calasmos who is the source of all darkness, and the creator of monsters. Above the both of them are the reincarnations of Erdrick. Who is the reincarnation of the Luminary throughout time and space. The "spawn" of Yggdragon, and the mute hero of many of the games. Then there are entities like Estark and Nokturnus who draw their power from the Goddess. The latter of whom was a threat to the multiverse.

As a whole, it is above the likes of other JRPGs like Xenoblade Chronicles.
