The Closest Man to God |
Name: Virgo Shaka, "The Closest Man to God"
Origin: Saint Seiya (original manga and Episode G)
Gender: Male
Classification: Gold Saint, possible reincarnation of Buddha
Age: 20 (original manga)
Powers and Abilities: Skilled warrior (can adapt to techniques seen or suffered once through observing the components of the attack), through Cosmo and the 7th sense has super strength, super speed, enhanced durability, telepathy (cross-dimensional level, could seal and release specific memories in Phoenix Ikki), telekinesis, illusion creation/reversal/resistance (he's the only human ever unaffected by Ikki's Hôô Genma Ken and three Gold Saints had to resort to perfectly mask their Cosmos and appearances to escape his constant illusion cycles and attacks from afar), energy blasts, forcefields, levitation/flight, space warping (could connect the back of his Temple in Greece to a garden in India), generation of sunlight into attacks, higher senses to track people over long distances and through dimensions (he could spot an invisible God) and compensate the loss of physical ones, dimensional travel, Buddhist meditation techniques to dispel any doubts on his mind holding him back or greatly increase his power (with prep time, leaving himself defenseless while he achieves it) to the point he performed spiritual purification on all of Earth (rejecting the Cosmos of sealed Hyperion, Iapetos, Coeus and astral Cronus, sealing back in Tartarus all the mythological beings resurrected by them preventing them from reappearing again on Earth, and still have enough power left after expending it to be compared to a God after opening his eyes), transmutation, increases and stores his Cosmo by keeping his eyes constantly closed when not fighting (releasing it them to fight at full power or perform very powerful attacks). Through the 8th sense has total control of his soul and body in the realm of death allowing him to resurrect | Can astral project himself through time by using his blood on Shun's Cloth as a catalyst
Weaknesses: Nothing notable
Destructive Capacity: Universe level (can cause atomic destruction [can extend to non-physical beings], varying range; superior to Shion and Dohko) | Universe level (stronger than when he was alive; his clash against Shijima resulted in a universe undergoing a constant state of creation and destruction) | Multiverse level (is no weaker than the Bronze Saints in their God Cloths)
Range: Galactic
Speed: Massively FTL+
Durability: Universe level with Gold Cloth (his attack using a Libra weapon was reflected back on him by the Wailing Wall, he however survived; should be more durable than Shion and Dohko), needs absolute zero to get frozen | Universe level+, he can also create pocket universes as a defensive way to stop universe busting from happening | Multiverse level
Lifting Strength: Unknown
Striking Strength: Universal Class (accelerates physical attacks with lightspeed movement), possibly much higher | Multiverse Class
Stamina: Extremely large (Gold Saints are stated to be able to maintain fights with each other for 1000 days, was able to fight, even after receiving strong attacks from one-seal Titans) | Basically limitless. If he fought Shijima it was stated that their fight wouldn't just last 1000 days but would instead be an endless cycle that wouldn't even be stopped by their respective deaths and resurrections
Standard Equipment: Virgo Gold Cloth armor with its own Cosmo signature that regenerates minor damage on its own, absorbs sunlight and can fly to other dimensions and through galaxies to aid other Saints. He possessed a rosary with 108 beads, each of which could seal the soul of a killed Spectre of Hades
Intelligence: Due to his transcendent nature he has a higher spiritual knowledge than most Saints
Notable Attacks/Techniques:
- Tenkû Haja Chimimôryô: Summons evil spirits against his enemies
- Tenma Kôfuku: A powerful Cosmo blast that can be used as an omni-directional or focused attack, and can also home in on distant enemies. Its power is comparable to Saga's Galaxian Explosion
- Rikudô Rinne: A Cosmo attack that physically strikes the body of his enemy and at the same time sends the victim through the 6 Buddhist worlds of reincarnation: the world of Hell, the world of ever-hungry Pretas, the world of Beasts, the world of Warriors, the world of Humans and the world of Heaven (the most dangerous one since a stray thought can cause one to fall into one of the another five), to force the victim into one of them, causing the death of the body. Since Shaka only performed it once against Phoenix Ikki, there's 2 interpretations of the 6 worlds part of this technique:
- It subjects the mind to a very powerful and hellish illusion cycle shaped as the 6 worlds that induces death. It was fought by Ikki's extraordinary willpower and his Phoenix immortality powers. Supported by the current afterlife in Saint Seiya being shaped by the vision of Hades, and all death planes seen so far (the Underworld and Tartarus) being from Greek Gods
- It separates the soul to be reincarnated in one of the 6 worlds. It was fought by Ikki's immortality/dimensional travel powers. Supported by reincarnation existing in Saint Seiya, a lesser Gold Saint manipulating souls, Buddha existing as a non-Greek deity, Gods being able to create realms, Tartarus existing independent to the Underworld of Hades and being populated by specific people and beings, and Shaka intending to directly send Ikki's body to the 6 worlds after stopping his heart
Ultimately, Shaka stated the technique wouldn't work on transcendent beings like himself, and that its effectiveness against Ikki would be greatly increased after the effects of the Tenbu Hôrin
- Kân: A barrier formed by Shaka's will that greatly increases his defense. Its power can also burn his enemies repelling them and purify his body from the inside out. It could almost completely stop the attacks of three Gold Saints when unsure of the identities of two of them (who visibly performed signature techniques despite not calling them out because of being disguised, Shaka just getting a shallow wound from it), repel the charge of all the summoned giants of one-seal Iapetos at once, casually override the mythologically-bound will of the Andromeda chain into turning back and almost kill its master, and when serious stop many attacks from a berserk Iapetos after he absorbed Themis (that showed he could stab through a Gold Cloth) before breaking
- Tenbu Hôrin: Shaka's strongest technique that combines attack and defense, taking its victim to a state of "supreme harmony". By opening his eyes and releasing all of his stored Cosmo, he removes one by one the 6 senses of everybody around himself at once (being able to remove different senses to each enemy in single actions) or just one target of his choosing. The effects of sense removal include making the enemy unable to attack or escape (by removing touch and immobilizing the body with his Cosmo), hindering breathing (by removing smell) and physical damage as a single removal could shatter a Cloth armor and casually knock back all the giants of one-seal Iapetos (whose single swords could react to and stop Leo Aiolia's Lightning Bolt) at once with an imperfect closed-eyes version of the technique. The 6th sense represents thought/will, removing it prevents any mind-activated ability like psychic attacks. This technique requires enormous power to be shaken off (the Athena Exclamation in one instance, the combined power of the divine blood and Dunamis of 2 fused one-seal Titans in another)
- Angyo: Shaka's tecnique used to stop Shijima's Ungyo from destroying the pocket universe that existed inside of virgo house, it is said to be the sound that brings birth to an universe and when clashed with Ungyo created one universe for each of the many destroyed universes and would do so eternally if Shun hadn't jump in the middle of the clash forcing them to stop.
- Athena Exclamation: The strongest Gold Saint technique, it can only be performed by a trio of Gold Saints elevating their Cosmo to an extreme level at the same time into a single spot, emulating the Big Bang in a lesser scale

- Explanation of Cosmo power
- Includes explanations of the 7th and 8th senses
- Shaka's 18th century counterpart, Virgo Shijima, could sense 20th century Athena's imminent time travelling arrival from beyond space and time before the fact. Virgo Asmita, Shaka's 18th century counterpart from (alternate continuity) The Lost Canvas, possesses the same techniques as Shaka and can also stop time from other dimensions
- An old argument against the Tenbu Hôrin is that it's useless against Cosmo users because it only serves to increase the power of its victim since Ikki briefly awakened the 7th sense to a level above Shaka's by exploiting its inflicted multiple-sense loss on purpose the same way Shaka increases his Cosmo by closing his eyes most of the time. However this can't be applied to just anyone since only Ikki ever did that (marking it as PIS or him being more gifted at Cosmo manipulation, most seen with him awakening his God Cloth with a mere touch of Athena's blood compared to how long the other Bronze Saints carried it on their Cloths), he gambled on it from the very beginning (hence him focusing to achieve that effect through a specific method, multiple people losing senses like Seiya or Marin never noticed any power increases coming with sense removal alone and Cosmo/sense upgrades don't come from sense removal but a deeper grasp of Cosmo), and Ikki only had the chance and the time to do this because of Shaka not being bloodlusted against lesser Saints he dominated until the end, with him often not combining sense removal with Cosmo damage against Ikki like he's shown to be capable of in both the original manga and Episode G. And even then, Ikki's final attack only managed a dimensional BFR that left him knocked out and lost while Shaka was uninjured (despite losing his Gold Cloth) and free to come back on his own at will even helping Ikki after that, waking him up and allowing him to recover his destroyed Cloth instead of killing him in revenge
