Background Information:

The Matrix is a trilogy of movies created by the Wachowki Brothers. The basic premise is that there was a war between humans and machines and humans lost. However, unlike in the Terminator movies, the machines decided to keep all of the humans alive to harvest their body heat as energy (which makes absolutely no fucking sense whatsoever since there are way more efficient and powerful energy sources available, like nuclear reactors). Anyway, instead of just lobotomizing every human as soon as they're born, the machines put them all in this giant virtual reality simulation, called (you guessed it) The Matrix. It's indistinguishable from real life (at least, if you don't know what you're supposed to be looking for to spot the differences), and if you die in the Matrix, you die in real life. The Matrix is patrolled by computer programs called agents, who can use a form of reality warping inside of the Matrix by manipulating the code.

The protagonist is Neo, a human who is known as "The One" (One being an anagram for Neo. Boy is this movie clever....) Anyway, Neo has the ability to manipulate the code of the Matrix like the agents, so he has the equivalent of enhanced speed, strength, telekinesis, reality warping, etc. He has to fight and defeat the machines and the rogue Agent Smith to save humanity.

There are three Matrix movies, the original Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, and The Matrix Revolutions. Most critics agree that they gradually declined in quality. The Matrix movies were notable, however, for introducing bullet timing to a mainstream audience, where previously it had been a rather obscure concept. There are also video games, comics, and animated shorts such as the Animatrix in the series. They are canon.

Standing in the Battledome:

In the OBD, fights involving Matrix characters are usually made with the assumption that the powers they have in the Matrix will work in real life, otherwise most fights involving them would be pointless.

The characters are below HST level (especially now), but movie 3 Neo and Smith are quite formidable. The Machines also have a powerful industry and military.

Character Profiles:

- Morpheus
- Neo
- Smith
