Background Information

Short for Detective Comics (which would make the whole name Detective Comics Comics, apparently they didn't think that one through), DC is a company that publishes many of the most popular comic book characters and franchises, such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the JLA, etc. All of these characters share a universe (well technically an Omniverse, known as Creation). Of course they need all of those extra universes since they have so many freaking characters, to the point they have integrated characters from other universes into a single one to simplify their titles to their readers.

DC has stirred up a lot of interest lately with titles like Final Crisis, Sinestro Corps War, 52, the All-Star imprint (which fizzled out outside the now classic All-Star Superman), Blackest Night, New Krypton, Battle for the Cowl, etc. In September of 2011, following the crossover event known as Flashpoint, DC Comics underwent a company - wide reboot, similar to Crisis on Infinite Earths back in the 80s, where most of their characters were redesigned and their continuity was started over from scratch.

The reaction to this is mixed, with some decrying it as a horrible idea, and others willing to give it a chance. As of late May 2016, DC Comics decided to relaunch its line of ongoing comic books with DC Rebirth. Using the end of The New 52 initiative in May 2016 as its launching point, DC Rebirth is intended to restore the DC Universe to a form much like that prior to the "Flashpoint" storyline while still incorporating numerous elements of The New 52, including its continuity. The profiles listed on this page mostly cover the Pre-Flashpoint/Pre-New 52 versions.

In the OBD, there are few posters who are partial for or against DC as a whole, but most of them support certain characters over others.

Standing in the Battledome

The DC Comics verse as a whole is considered to be the second strongest universe in the OBD, as it has several multiversal beings, and too many cosmics and reality warpers to shake a stick at, not to mention the snivelling pest that is Super-Mary Sue-Prime, and the odd fact that everyone plus their grandmothers wear capes and fly around at speeds far faster than light unless they can actually use it to to solve the plot in a way that doesn't waste everyone's time and intelligence or save some drama.
