SEED featuring Jesus Yamato

Background Information

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED (機動戦士ガンダムSEED (シード) Kidō Senshi Gandamu Shīdo) is an anime series developed by Sunrise and directed by Mitsuo Fukuda. As with other series from the Gundam franchise, Gundam SEED takes place in a parallel timeline, in this case, the Cosmic Era, the first to do so. In this era, mankind has developed into two subspecies: Naturals, who reside on Earth, and Coordinators, genetically-enhanced humans capable of withstanding the rigors of space who inhabit orbital colonies. The story revolves around a young Coordinator Kira Yamato who becomes involved in the war between the two races after a neutral space colony is invaded by the Coordinators.

Standing in the Battledome

Gundam SEED, or as otherwise called the Cosmic Era (CE), is a relatively strong series. Mobile Suits that are equipped with Phase-Shift Armor have city block to multi city block level durability. The various beam-type weapons have energy yields in the kilotons with the more powerful versions almost approaching the megatons. Certain Mobile Suit parts and especially the shields are also treated to resist this kind of power for a while, as well there exist a number of other countermeasures. Many Mobile Suits can fly with supersonic to hypersonic speeds and the most skilled pilots are capable of reacting against beams traveling at Mach 1200+ speeds. In terms of strategic scale, the N-Jammers can interfere with radar and radio communications plus prevent bombs and reactors that use nuclear fission. Their nukes also have decent city level power but more importantly, there are many other superweapons like the Requiem and GENESIS with island level+ firepower. Actually, the "original" GENESIS used in the Bloody Valentine War has continent-busting firepower and capacity to almost life wipe the Earth. Still, compared to other verses in the Gundam franchise, Gundam SEED can only be considered around the middle. Turn A Gundam, G Gundam, Gundam X, Gundam 00 (movie version) plus more arguably UC Gundam and Gundam Wing rank above them.

Gundam SEED has a relatively large popularity, especially in Japan. On the other hand, The OBD and Gundam section regulars often view the series with contempt. This is especially true to the woeful continuation called Gundam SEED Destiny. As such Gundam SEED has been often used as the Sci-Fi equivalent of the Method of Test.
