First airing on November 4th, 2013, Steven Universe is a coming-of-age story told from the perspective of Steven, the youngest member of the group, the Crystal Gems, a team of magical guardians, and protectors of the universe. The animated series was conceived as a part of the shorts development initiative at Cartoon Network Studios, and is created by Emmy and Annie award-nominated writer and storyboard artist, Rebecca Sugar. Sugar is Cartoon Network's first solo female show creator.

The Crystal Gems are a group of intergalactic warriors who use the power of special gem stones embedded on their bodies to summon magical weapons. The four Gems are: Garnet, Amethyst, Pearl and Steven. Steven is a young boy who inherited a gem stone from his mother, a Crystal Gem named Rose Quartz. As Steven tries to figure out the secrets to using his gem, he spends his days in Beach City doing activities with the other Crystal Gems, whether it's helping them save the universe or just hanging out.

Canonicity

The main source of canon material is animated series, however there's also a few comics and video game for Android and iOS that depict side-adventures from the cast. However, these are 'level 2 canon side-adventures' while the content from the series take priority, as stated by Ian Jones Quartey, one of the producers of the show.

Standing in the Battledome

The verse as a whole is fairly powerful, it contains a large number of advanced technology artifacts like warp pads, replicators, powerful weaponry and massively FTL ships. Almost every relevant character has relativistic to FTL reactions and at least small island level of durability and destructive capacity with some country-continent level high tiers plus a planetary threat.

They also have a few handy abilities like BFR portals, precognition, pocket dimensions, magic nullifying barriers, healing and elemental manipulation.

The Crystal Gems have thousands of years of battle expierence and are very agile and skilled fighters at HtH combat and long distance combat through the use of special weapons and long reach techniques of some fusions. It's a basic ability of every gem to be able to regenerate since their physical forms are actually only a projection coming from their gem, and bubbling and teleporting away items and persons is a recurrent ability used by the Crystal Gems in the show. It's also worth noting that gems have nearly unlimited stamina since their power source is the entirety of the universe's matter-energy, and thus they don't need to eat or rest. Some gems like Amethyst enjoy doing these things, regardless.

In general, it's slightly more powerful than the HST due to it's god tiers, tech and far superior speed.
