Volume 1

Background Information

Cardcaptor Sakura (also known as Cardcaptors in the states and abbreviated as CCS) is a series written and illustrated by CLAMP a doujin circle turned commercial manga circle. It follows the adventures of Sakura, a girl who is tasked with capturing powerful cards tailored after occult tarot. Each card is attributed a special power or ability ranging from flight to the ability to erase things from existence. The series is also known to be a pedo bait.

Standing in the Battledome

The manga (canon) version of Cardcaptor Sakura, has nineteen cards specifically named, while the anime series has fifty-three (fifty-two in the series proper, the last from the second movie). The nineteen cards in the manga are The Light, The Dark, The Windy, The Earthy, The Firey, The Wood, The Watery, The Flower, The Fly, The Jump, The Erase, The Mirror, The Maze, The Illusion, The Sword, The Shield, The Shadow, The Thunder, and The Glow. For this reason the manga version of CSS can be seen as significantly weaker than the anime version which has abilities among time manipulation.

Cardcaptor Sakura on the whole can be seen as signifcantly weaker than any manga in the Holy Shonen Trinity given Sakura herself is a glass cannon with no more than peak human movement speed. In the OBD however it's typically agreed on that Sakura in possession of all the cards (manga and anime) would be a formidable character.
