The GT cast

Background Information

Dragon Ball GT is an anime-only continuation of Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball.

It was created by Toei, the same company who animated Akira's manga, but is not considered canon to the Dragon Ball continuity.

Though Toriyama did not personally write GT, he did strictly oversee its production. This was the same process that was used during the production of the anime series Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. Characters and events from GT have also been included in more recent Dragon Ball video games.

The series continues the adventures of Goku who is turned back into a child at the beginning of the series by the Black Star Dragon Balls and is forced to travel across the galaxy to retrieve them. The first half of the series focuses on Goku, Pan, and Trunks, while the second half brings back most of the prominent characters from Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. The series follows the Z Fighters against far more powerful foes such as Baby, Super 17 and the Shadow Dragons.

It takes place, chronologically, after the DBZ anime, and is considered to be bad for the following reasons:

  • Introduction of the incredibly lame Black Star Dragon Balls plot device
  • The purpose of said plot device being to turn Goku into a kid
  • Kid Goku acting like an ignorant idiot despite the fact that he has the same mind as his adult self and should know better
  • Nerfing all of the side characters, but not just the weak ones, the ones who were built up in DBZ to be incredibly powerful (such as Gohan and Uub).
  • Incredibly lame villains (Baby, Super 17, most of the Shadow Dragons except Nova Shenron, etc.)
  • A really, really annoying robot sidekick added for seemingly no reason (Scrappy-Doo syndrome)

Standing in the Battledome

It’s well known for being highly inconsistent when it comes to power level and aside from obvious things, such as planetbusting, it’s hard to use the original creation of which it does not belong to the canon of, to bolster it.

However, using the manga to powerscale GT is asinine anyway, since it belongs in Toei’s animeverse in the first place.

With that in mind, GT winds up being absolutely ridiculous by scaling from the Z-Era anime feats (both from the Z Anime and Z movies, since it's a different continuation from the canon series) and has characters with solar system level+/at least solar system level+ stats due to the filler Kid Buu flashback, which is examined as solar system level+, while GT has low tiers who are even superior to the likes of Kid Buu and even Buuhan.

The characters are also having at least FTL+ to MFTL+ speeds due to King Kai's supernatural vision [which can track FTL+ spaceships in the Namek Saga] losing track of SSJ Goku and 100% Freeza or Bojack's and his crew MFTL+ speed feat from movie 9.

It hasn’t received much use in the OBD due to its non-canon status. That, and it’s shit. Mainly because it’s shit, actually.

However, The SSJ4 forms, Nova Shenron and MajUub are cool.

Also, for those who are still reading this, have a look at the madness of GT power levels.

A more detailed explanation of Super Baby Vegeta 1 being stronger than Super Vegetto.

Basically, if you've ever wanted to make a thread with a high-tier Z era character vs a GT one, just don't.

If you've ever wanted to make a pre-DBS high/top tier character vs a GT one, just stop.

Also, it's Goku Time, every time and anytime, forever. :ssj4gokuskully
